Game Design Document

 Project Design Document

I would like to present my Project Design Document for the Multimedia Module 2 that is aimed to help me to be able to prepare a well organised plan and get me ready when it comes to start developing my 2D game.

Why do we need to create Project Design Document?

Preparing all the documentations ready before you start designing your game is normally thought to be the most boring part of Game Design, even game designers mention it in their tutorials, but it does not have to be. The well organised Project Design Document can help you and your team to have a better understand what you are expected to. Produce at the end of the entire process. It can speed up your work and avoid the obstacles that can appear during Design. So, referring to your Document can be a quite useful tool.

Project Design Document Sections:

  • The name of the Game

  • Location

  • Obstacles

  • Objects

  • Sound

  • Goals

  • Unique aspects

To the moment I have a clear picture in my head how the game should look and what are the main goals of the Game, so visualisation of the idea should aim to help others to imagine the result.

It also will help me to follow my plan and stick to it.

As the idea of the Game aims to reproduce an old game from my childhood, I included the section “Inspiration,” where the back story of the Game will be explained.

The Title

“Space adventure”

The astronaut is flying in the space traveling towards the Moon, on his way he meets lots of space objects that he needs to avoid, otherwise the astronaut will be damaged or killed.

  Location

The scenery of the game is in the space using all attributes and bright colours. More like cartoon space with space objects.

 Obstacles

The player must move left, right, and up and down to avoid space objects, because if he does, he must start again as the astronaut is killed.

The space objects fly from different sides and the speed of falling increases when progressing to another level.

Objects

The player is flying around space objects.

Sound

The music should be quite fast and funny, more like music for children and matching movements of the player.

Controls

Simple hands movements up and down, left and right using arrows of the keyboard or assigned letters.

Goals

The game should attract both children and adults with its easy and straight forward catching up idea.

Unique aspects

The game should attract with its colourful graphics and that it is straight forward in terms of using and be quite challenging when progressing to the next level.

 Distribution

As the Game is designed for a portable usage, so it can be children's consoles and App store and Google play if downloaded for a mobile device.
