Week 9 , Reading and Writing

This week I would like to talk about reading experience overall. At first it was quite challenging as I mentioned it before that the information, I was reading was new for me as I do not play games and to be honest, I am not planning to start doing it. Although I don’t play games and I am not planning to develop games as I think it would be strange to be a game developer who does not play games, the mechanism of how the game designing works is very interesting to follow and I think it could be useful to know all this mechanism to master the strategy in Design in general, so I really enjoyed MDA part of reading and that week reading gave me lots of knowledge about all the aspects of Game Design and gave me more understanding and I am sure it will help me a lot in my project as at the very beginning I thought that I would never understand how to do it, but now at week 9 I don’t think it anymore , my head is clear and it is not only because of Unity tutorials but also reading about Game Design helped me a lot as well. I also enjoyed the week 08 reading about “Game Fun”, and I knew it before but could not explain it properly so academic reading helps in it a lot. Academic reading also gives me an opportunity to develop my vocabulary in the industry as it is especially important for my future career.

Now I would like to talk about overall experience in academic reading in this module. It was very tough and stressful at the beginning, and I spent 3,4 hours on it as I was trying to make sense out of what I had read, but the more I read the easier it became and now I spent around an hour for academic reading and try to focus on most important staff that attracts me most. This kind of reading helps me to stay motivated. I understand that the workload is huge, and you do need to follow your time management in terms of dividing your time proportionally.

Overall academic reading is very enjoyable as it is a combination of articles and interesting videos so it helps to stay focused as sometimes if you do not have enough time on reading everything you can combine both, you can read one article and watch a video, the most important this is to understand what this academic reading is about and how it can help you in your Game Designing.

I also found Vision Statement and GGD extremely helpful in having a clear idea what you are going to design and now when I have those documents done, I can focus on my prototype and it does not seem impossible to do it anymore, the overall challenge in this module brought me to enjoyment in Game Designing and now I just love it and hope to design the Game I planned to make.
